I call this page Jeaninne's Excursions but actually I could call it My Excursions too as I took my friend Jeannine from America around the N. Ireland countryside. I actually wore out a pair of shoes in the process! These Excursions took place in the late Spring early Summer of 2008 from late April to early June and the weather was absolutely beautiful. It was never known that anyone came to N. Ireland for a sun tan but Jeannine certainly went home with one! Please enjoy in the videos and pictures some of the places we went to. The scenery in the videos is complimented by Country Gospel music.
This video was taken at Slemish Mt. in Co. Antrim. We did not actually make it to the summit! It was an enjoyable day and some people were better at doing an impression of a mountain goat than others! |
We spent a w onderful day in Glenariff Glen in Co. Antrim. We concentrated mostly on the Riverside walk that day down by the Waterfalls. We had to descend into a deep gorge to get to the River and I dont know how we made it back up again! |
It was a long walk along the river but very enjoyable. I just wish someone had carried me back up the gorge again! Mind you, Jeannine had a dodgy knee which was replaced for her when she went home to America again so good on her for sticking it out that day! |
We headed out of Glenariff Glen and

It is wonderful how you drive for miles and there is beautiful scenery at your own door step! The Race Road is where I live and was reared and it is near Portglenone, a little village in Co. Antrim |
We spent a relaxing evening in the Castle Grounds in Antrim town. It was nice to walk around and enjoy the scenery and the late evening sunshine. I really like taking pictures of old stone bridges |
As I have said it was so relaxing to spend the evening in these beautiful Castle Grounds. Antrim town is a about 20 miles from where I live and is beside the shore of Lough Neagh whch we visited next on the same evening! |
This video concludes our tour of the Castle Grounds. After this we set off to the shore of Lough Neagh. We could have walked there from the Castle Grounds but decided to take the car instead. Some people I think were feeling a little tired and some even were hungry which of course did not apply to me..lol! |
Well here we are up at Lough Neagh, the largest fresh water lake or lough in the United Kingdom. My wife Marlene and Jeannine had to have a picnic and of course they forced me to sit down and eat a sandwich or two with them! |
Jeannine and I left Marlene sitting on a summer seat while we went to take some pictures. There were a lot of ducks about and swans. Afterwards we had icecreams apiece which tasted good and then we headed home by Randalstown where we stopped to photo the bridge there! |
Well..we set off on a beautiful sunny morning so I could show Jeannine our major tourist attration, the Antrim Coast, and it was foggy when we landed there! Only Jeannine knows how much I scolded that day! I was so dissappointed. We were fortunate to get back a few times later when the sun actually did shine! |
Talk about living on the edge! We went round this cliff face clinging to it with only about eighteen inches between us and a long drop into the sea but we laughed in the face of danger! Later I discovered that Jeannine was afraid of heights! Eeeek! |
The sun did actually try and get out that day a few times around the coast. We stopped in Glenarm village and took some pictures of the entrance into Glenarm Castle and also some of the forest. I still was not happy that it was still misty! |
I decided to give up on the coast for the day and head back inland again where of course the sun was shining gloriously! We stopped to take some pictures as we neared the village of Broughshane. You can see Slemish and some of the surrounding countryside. |
Not that I am allowed out late but we decided to go to Portstewart along the coast one night to view the sunset over the ocean. It was beautiful! Next day I had Jeannine doing a bit of gardening. I told her to do the stripes straight when mowing the lawn but I might as well never have bothered...lol |
Isn't it great you can sit back in a deckchair sipping cold lemomade and watch someone else do the work in the garden! The stripes on lawn were still a bit dodgy but Jeannine could verily handle that mower! After all that hard work and sweat...well its not everything sitting in a deckchair you know..we headed down to Larne to see the boats. |
We had a wonderful day in Glenarm Forest although I could not see the forest for the trees..ahem! It was beautiful down by the river and we saw fish jumping. Some person I will not name was on her back in the middle of the river taking pictures. Well she was on a large flat rock at the time but nevertheless..was it any wonder the fish were jumping! |
Sometimes we did not have the car to tour about in so we always took a "wee danner" down the Race Road where I live. I am sure you have noticed that everytime you have seen Jeannine in these videos she has a camera in her hand. Well don't worry..when she went home..they surgically removed it from her. Its wonderful what they can do in America! Joking aside..Jeannine sure did take a lot of pictures! |
We did not have far to travel the day we visited Portglenone Forest! The bluebells were out in vast array under the canopy of forest trees. The River Bann runs along side of the forest and is a popular water way for boat enthusiasts and fishermen. Again we were blessed with a lovely sunny day and enjoyed our excursion thoroughly! |
This video shows more of the River Bann which flows by Portglenone Forest. ![]() |
As I said before we had a wonderful day in the forest and it is quite a large one to get around! Then there were frequent stops to take photos...you know what these tourist are like! Jeannine used to ask me...do I look like a tourist? I answered..apart from the ten cameras around your neck...no! Joking Jeannine! |
Finally the end of our tour around Portglenone Forest and then it was on to North Antrim Coast for the next excursion! We started of at the Whiterocks near Portrush that day and headed on round the coast from there. I need a rest! |
This was another beautiful day. We had set off early in the morning and stopped at the Whiterocks Portrush. Then we made our way along the coast from there, stopping near the ruins of Dunluce Castle and ending up at the Giants Causeway...a pile of stones in the ocean as my wife would put it! |
We spent quite awhile clamouring over this " pile of stones" called the Giant's Causeway! It was also heaving with tourist that day....so many different tongues in one place and a lot of Americans ones as well! ![]() |
